Who We Are
Elgin Acres Farm is a small-scale, family-run vegetable farm. The farmers are Dwayne & Sarah Foshay, who work part and full-time on the farm with occasional help from their children & parents.
They grow over 20 different varieties of vegetables on our 6 acre farm, including eggs from free-run, pastured hens, sourdough pizza dough and bread boules, and microgreens. They focus on fertility by creating a healthy soil ecosystem through crop rotation, cover cropping, the use of compost, and a reduced tillage system that uses permanent growing beds and permanent paths between them. While they are not certified organic, they do not use any herbicides or synthetic fertilizers. On the rare occasion when they have needed to use a pesticide, they only use products approved for use by certified organic growers. All of this helps them to grow healthy, vibrant crops and respect the ecosystem.
Produce is marketed through a membership Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, one Saturday Farmers Market, and direct farm sales at our Friday Roadside Stand. 2020 will be their second season in business; so they are still growing, learning, and changing. The ultimate question is, why? The earth can survive without people; people cannot survive without earth. Quite simply, it’s the right thing to do and it’s how we want to nourish our bodies and souls. "Let food be thy medicine, and medicine be thy food." Hippocrates, the Greek founder of western medicine.
The Foshay family thanks you for your support.
